Welcome to the World’s Smallest City
Durbuy is often referred to as the world's smallest city. Its status dates back to 1331 when John 1, Count of Luxembourg, and the 'King of Bohemia' granted the title when the town was surrounded by ramparts and had only 400 inhabitants.
Despite its small size, it has a big reputation for its historical cobblestone streets, charming shops, and excellent restaurants, including the oldest one, Rue Daufresne de la Chevalerie, which is entirely paved with pebbles from the Ourthe.
The town is known for its great gastronomy due to its unusually high proportion of gastronomic restaurants, with crayfish being a particular speciality.
Additionally, nearby is the Topiary Park, one of the largest in Europe, which features amusingly shaped animals such as elephants, crocodiles, and even a giant Pamela Anderson with leafy lady lumps! The park's natural assets, including a backdrop of a sheer cliff, waterfall, and the rocky bluff on which the castle sits, make it a visual treat for weekend visitors.
