The Lamb Tavern at Buckland is a beautiful old pub nestled in the heart of Buckland village. Chef and owner Nathan Richardson has lovingly brought the pub back to life when the previous owners sadly decided to close it after lockdown.
The Lamb offers proud and robust British classics alongside very special plates which just sing with comfort and joy: Battered Hake & Chips, Beef & bacon suet pastry pie & mash; Brown butter, crab and toast tartlet with apple salad and cured egg. Puddings are deliciously crowd-pleasing: Bread & Butter pudding, Treacle Tart and Crème Brûlée. There are 40 covers in the restaurant as well as a private dining room for events, which seats up to 16 people.
Over in the cosy bar there’s a rotating menu of ‘five good things’ every day: Smoked cod roe fritters; half a dozen Poole oysters either on ice, with devilled butter, or served with exmoor caviar and champagne; Toast & bacon jam; Fried haggis; Welsh Rarebit, amongst many others. The bar has around 80 covers and Nathan has worked hard with local breweries White Horse and Loose Cannon to make sure they’re represented, alongside Cotswold Gin.
