The UK’s entertainment market continues to grow with each year. Soon, it seems, it’ll become the biggest in Europe – even beating the much more populated former titan of the market, Germany. A big part of this growth is thanks to the online market, with digital media being worth over £17.5 billion.
Given the less than idyllic weather the UK has been experienced throughout the winter this year, it’s understandable that Brits would increasingly turn to the internet for some fun. However, Oxford’s got a few reasons to brave the outside if you enjoy evenings of stand-up comedy.
Convenient Entertainment as the Cold Bites
With February opening to forecasts of snow, ice, and temperatures as low as 7oC, people across Oxford have been spending their time indoors. Luckily, the British entertainment market has evolved to suit the ever-growing demand for convenience, helping it to exceed £100 billion as a market, according to PwC.
British creatives have been at the forefront of this, from the streaming services founded by our broadcasters, like BBC iPlayer and ITVX, to new forms of gaming. British developers Barcrest have been around since the 1960s, making games like Invader and Genesis. In 2006, they launched the Rainbow Riches series for online casinos around the world. That original creation continues to be a huge draw, as the company updated the game to be compatible with mobile devices. Now, you can tap to spin and play any of the five bonus features you may unlock, anywhere from your phone.
Still, it's one of thousands of online slots that are out there now. For online TV and movies too, there are also thousands of options. So, it can be tough to swiftly find something that's truly worth your time. To meet this demand of Brits wanting to be pointed in the right direction, Reelgood came up with a new tool. Move Roulette lets you spin to find your next watch. You can use the filters to narrow the results down to the subscription platforms that you use, genre, and minimum Reelgood score to guarantee you’ll like what you find.
Oxford Giving Plenty of Reasons to Step Outside
Oxford has become somewhat of a hotbed for top comedic talents this year. Already, Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf has had audiences at Oxford Playhouse in hysterics. Its creator, Stewart Lee, even praised the venue as a great place to kick off a run of shows because the fans always deliver a stellar atmosphere.
Later this year, two more famed comedians will put on shows in Oxford. First, it’ll be Australian singer-songwriter, comedian, and pianist Tim Minchin. Marking 20 years since he burst onto the British circuit, Minchin’s Songs The World Will Never Hear tour in the UK will come to New Theatre Oxford later this year.
Also on the way is Jason Manford. The stand-up tour will be playing over 175 dates throughout the year, one of which will also be at the New Theatre Oxford. The comic from Salford says that his new show is all about being relatable and drawing fun from everyday experiences.
It’s very easy to just stay at home and find something that’s very enjoyable, but over the coming months, Oxford will be giving you some great reasons to go out and catch a show.
