If you have a birthday coming up, either for yourself or a member of your family, why not consider hosting a party at home? Instead of paying for costly venues and fancy catering, choose to organise all the fun in the comfort of your own home.

In this article, we’ll be providing our top tips on how to host a memorable birthday party at home. Invite your nearest and dearest, celebrating huge milestones while spending time with loved ones.

Choose a theme

Firstly, choosing a theme for the party can help set the tone and streamline the planning process. Whether it’s a 70s disco theme, vintage Hollywood bash, or a superhero vs. villains theme, it’s sure to get your guests feeling excited for the celebrations.

Narrowing down a theme can help inform your decorations, activities, and even what’s on the menu. There are so many dinner party themes you can utilise to ensure your guests are having fun and their stomachs are full!

Plan fun activities

Keeping your guests entertained is a must at any party. You should put on a variety of activities to suit different interests and age groups so that everyone has a good time.

Depending on the space available and the theme of your party, you could organise fun games, crafts, scavenger hunts, or even install a DIY photo booth. You could also consider playing online bingo and organising prizes for the winners!

Get creative with décor

Create a lively atmosphere at home using colourful decorations to match your chosen theme. Think balloons, streamers, and banners galore! Even a decorative tablecloth can help set the mood.

If you’re on a budget, you could make your own decorations, reusing any items you have lying around the house. This, in turn, means you’ll be creating a unique and personalised décor that everyone will be sure to love.

Delicious food and drinks

No birthday party is complete without a selection of tasty snacks and drinks. When hosting at home, it’s best to plan a buffet-style meal with finger foods and a variety of appetisers and desserts for your guests to choose from.

Depending on the time of day can also help you decide what foods to lay out. If it’s a daytime party in the summer, perhaps a BBQ would be the best option. Or, if you’re hosting in the evening, think hot food and plenty of canapés.

Don’t forget to check the dietary requirements with your guests before the party. You don’t want anyone missing out and you want to ensure everyone is well-fed.
