St Jude’s Meadow, is situated in the heart of the idyllic rural village of Milton-under-Wychwood and features a mix of 31 luxury 3 and 5-bedroom homes. The show homes feature interiors by the internationally acclaimed Malcolm Duffin Design. Reputed for their distinctive designs, Malcolm Duffin are best known for their work with brands like Mulberry and Ralph Lauren.

Malcolm Duffin, Head of Design at Malcolm Duffin Design explains “We wanted to step away from the traditional show home look and reflect how people really live, so we designed a new style – Cotswold Cool. It’s a contemporary take on the traditional Cotswold look for home buyers who want to mix luxury with a smart, sophisticated style. We have used bespoke furniture paired with hand-made curtains to create an eclectic look, suitable for modern country living.”

The exterior of the homes has been designed to reflect the local architectural style, constructed using reconstituted stone and natural slate. The 5-bedroom Ferrey show home features a thatched roof, constructed by a local thatcher.

Joanne Casey, Managing Director at Mactaggart & Mickel’s Homes England division, said “We are always thrilled to launch a new development to the public, but St Jude’s Meadow is a unique achievement of which we are extremely proud. The whole team have outdone themselves in preparing for our first development in England and the launch of St Jude’s Meadow is the culmination of a lot of hard work. We have been building luxury homes across Scotland since 1925 and are very much looking forward to sharing our vast experience with house hunters looking to settle in such a stunning English location.

Mactaggart & Mickel recently achieved the maximum five-star rating from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for a seventh year in a row, following an independent customer satisfaction survey. The housebuilder places great emphasis on customer satisfaction – to ensure the final quality checks meet its stringent construction standards, they are personally undertaken in every home by a company director or senior manager.

With well-regarded schools and a range of essential amenities on the doorstep, St Jude’s Meadow is sure to be in high demand. Joanne Casey continues: “The first few plots on site are now available for Early Bird Option, which allows house-hunters to secure their chosen home well in advance of their anticipated move-in date, giving the flexibility to arrange finances and/or sell their current property.”

The Early Bird Option is available to Mactaggart & Mickel house buyers. It offers an opportunity to secure their ideal home free of charge on a flexible, no-obligation basis while the development is under construction. This gives buyers plenty of time to market and sell their existing property.

House prices range from £480,000 for a spacious three-bedroom detached home and to £695,000 for a fivebedroom luxury detached home.

Jeremy Catto: A Portrait of the Quintessential Oxford Don

Phillip Baldwin reviews a new biography by David Vaiani

I first met Jeremy Catto at an Oxford University open day in 2002, when we chatted intensely about Tudor History and current affairs. I read Modern History at Oriel College from 2003-2006, the year of Jeremy’s retirement.

Customs and traditions are often things we accept without question. Why do we put candles on a birthday cake? Why is it called a honeymoon? What exactly is mistletoe?
