Accelerating Secondary School Talent with Toby Goodman Racing

Lord Williams's A-Level student Toby Goodman is a kid in a hurry… which is great news for the town as Toby’s successful ten year career has progressed from karting championships into the driving seat of competitive car racing, placing him tipped to win the MINI Challenge 2019 Cooper Pro Series against stiff opposition.

Councillor Ann Midwinter, the current Mayor of Thame, was once a Work Experience Co-ordinator for the school helping teenagers to find employers that suited their talents.

Says Ann, ‘Talent and tenacity go hand in hand for Toby. Anyone that’s dedicated a decade to motor racing before adulthood shows a complete focus for the sport. I hope he can use his education on and off the track to carve a career in the industry.’

Head of Sixth Form and Toby’s teacher, Mr Johnny Hammond, agrees, ‘Winning certainly helps! He is also studying science which will give good insight into vehicle dynamics and handling. All the school support him!’

The only thing holding Toby back is lack of funds and he’s spent the last year trying to reach out to local businesses in order to secure sponsorship.

Excelr8 Motorsport, the professional motorsport team which Toby races for, can offer sponsorship packages all the way up to Prime Time Live TV BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) coverage for companies willing to support him. There are plenty of very affordable and exciting options available for local businesses wishing to take out partner branding or track time with Toby, in order to gain excellent exposure and gain access to a wider audience.

Whatever happens we wish him success for the season ahead!

When I visited FarmED at Shipton-under-Wychwood earlier this year, I could not help but notice some absolutely stunning wood sculptures in the reception area and on display in the café.

Jeremy Catto: A Portrait of the Quintessential Oxford Don

Phillip Baldwin reviews a new biography by David Vaiani

I first met Jeremy Catto at an Oxford University open day in 2002, when we chatted intensely about Tudor History and current affairs. I read Modern History at Oriel College from 2003-2006, the year of Jeremy’s retirement.

Customs and traditions are often things we accept without question. Why do we put candles on a birthday cake? Why is it called a honeymoon? What exactly is mistletoe?
