The health of your tyres can be compromised in many ways. The good news is that it is relatively simple to look after them if you know what to do. Remember that healthy tyres are not only safer to drive on but they will last longer, thereby saving you money. What should you be doing to look after your tyres if you drive around busy towns? Read on to find out.

Pull Away Slowly

To begin with, you should get out of the habit of putting your foot down in first gear. If possible, begin pulling away on second with lower revs. This will prevent your wheels from spinning, thereby placing your tyres under less stress.

Inflate Your Tyres Properly

Over-inflated tyres expand at the sides which means you get a curve on the surface of the tread. Consequently, just one small section of the tyre will bear all of the weight of your car, wearing it out sooner than you'd like. Equally, partially flattened tyres will often slew when cornering cause excess wear on the many roundabouts you find in new towns.

Look Out for Bulging Sections of Rubber

When tyres have bulges that look like they are bubbles about to pop out of your tyres, they often will be. These are formed from degraded rubber so you should inspect your tyres every couple of months to look for them. Any bulges that are present indicate that replacement tyres will be needed without delay. Many local tyre centres offer professional tyre replacements. For example if you are in a local area like Basildon you can opt for a professional garage. One place to go to get durable tyres in Basildon or nearby areas is Jet Wheel Tyre garage (Tel:01268 988552)

Keep Your Distance

One of the things that places tyres under undue stress that is easily avoidable is braking. Of course, you do need to brake at appropriate moments but ask yourself whether you always need to dab your brake pedal. Instead, you could hold back from the car in front and simply ease off the accelerator. This way, your tyres will have to transfer less energy to the road to slow you down, preserving the lives of your tyres in the process.
