Rewind South 2024

With August fast approaching, fans of all things retro can look forward to the annual Rewind South Festival. It is scheduled to take place from August 16 to August 18 in Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom, in celebration of 80s music and lifestyle. The event will feature silent discos, theme parks, and street performances reminiscent of the 80s. We've explored entertainment options that thrived during that time, and provided a rundown of some shows tourists and fans can anticipate in the upcoming festival.

Popular Entertainment in the 80s

Rewind South is set to feature performances by renowned musicians from the 1980s. Billy Ocean will headline its Friday event on August 16, alongside The Jacksons and a live gospel choir. Other popular entertainers expected include Heather Small and Jason Donovan. The roster for the subsequent days is also impressive, with Roland Gift and Nik Kershaw featuring on the second day. Musicals were vastly popular in the 80s, hence the heavy presence of music stars at the Festival.

The era also featured the debut of other prolific entertainment forms due to innovative technology introduced at the time. For instance, the craze for movies was at an all-time high as the VCR was released in 1976. The 1980s later marked the filming of iconic movies like Top Gun and Miami Vice. The Mirage Resort was also opened in the Las Vegas Strip and construction began on the Excalibur hotel. These factors contributed to the increased popularity of casinos in the period. Newer game variants emerged as Baccarat tables in Las Vegas moved from cash to chips by the early 1980s.

Mini Baccarat also began to appear in land-based casinos in this period, a precursor of innovations that would come into the gambling world. Casino gaming has since improved, with casinos offering enthusiasts the option to play online baccarat. Their demo games allow the game to keep evolving, as new players can learn how to play online Baccarat, with a guide to online Baccarat, keeping the industry expanding.

Performing Artists and Other Activities at the Festival

Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde's performance promises a thrilling moment for lovers of 80s music. She has gained recognition for her renowned songs such as "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "Cambodia", and "Kids in America".

Her appearance at Rewind Festival South is expected to showcase great songs from her vast discography. Audiences can anticipate a performance featuring exceptional music and a feeling of nostalgia.

Gabrielle

Louisa Gabriella Bobb is a proficient British singer-songwriter. Professionally known as Gabrielle, she's famous for her soft, heartfelt vocals and popular tracks such as "Give Me a Little More Time" and "Dreams."

Her performance is scheduled for Saturday, August 17. Excitement about her performance at the event is not just about her unique tunes but also the possibility of freshly released content.

Rewind Silent Disco

The Silent Disco is another memorable musical celebration at the festival. Just as it sounds, it's a disco, but one where participants listen to the DJ with headphones.

At the Rewind Silent Disco, two DJs will compete, as guests can switch between both to listen to their preferred classic tracks. This is scheduled to take place in the same venue as the Electro Picture Lounge.

Go Back in Time

If previous years' events were anything to go by, 80s lovers could look forward to another fun festival experience. The line-up of performing artists, including The Jacksons and Billy Ocean, is an excellent combination to take event-goers back in time to relive this historical entertainment era.

For the uninitiated, Nell Mescal (yes, sister of actor Paul) is an Irish singer-songwriter who hit the festival circuit hard last summer, playing (amongst others) The Great Escape, BST Hyde Park, Boardmasters and Live at Leeds. This year, she’s headed to Oxfordshire and Alex James’ Big Feastival for August bank holiday weekend. Eloise Lonsdale caught up with her to find out more about her musical style and her recently launched EP, Can I Miss it For a Minute.

2024’s Truck line-up looks to be one of its best yet, balancing big names with emerging artists and beloved regulars. As an event, it has come to mark start of the summer holidays for its devoted attendees, but how about the acts? We caught up with Oli Khan, drummer in indie-rock band Sea Girls to get the bands-eye view.

Corinne Bailey Rae’s Put Your Records On snap-shotted the summer of 2006. Her most recent release, Black Rainbows came out 2023 and it is obvious to hear how much she is relishing the full range of her unique voice and, as I was to discover when we spoke, her extraordinarily lyrical vocabulary.
